Our JROTC students opened the ceremony with the presentation of the colors, marking a meaningful beginning to this special celebration. Throughout the ceremony, the AFMHS Chorus kept the audience engaged with several beautiful musical selections. Their performances added to the joy of the occasion and helped make the evening even more memorable for our graduates and their families. We are grateful to all of the students and staff that participated in this momentous occasion, and thank all of the family and friends who attended to support our scholars.
We were honored to hear from our graduates and administrators during the ceremony. Our Salutatorian, Zy'Nariah Rhodes spoke about the purpose and necessity of failures. Valedictorian Santos Milan, reflected on his journey and reminded us to be slow and steady like a turtle in order to win the race. Our Superintendent Dr. Vallerie Cave was immensely proud to confer the graduates as they head into the real world to pursue their aspirations.

Today, we proudly held our annual Senior Walk in celebration of the Class of 2026! Dressed in their graduation regalia, our seniors walked through the halls of our middle and elementary schools as they were cheered on and celebrated by teachers, staff, and fellow students. This special tradition gives our entire district the opportunity to honor our graduates and recognize their incredible achievement. It also serves as a powerful reminder to our younger students of the goals they are working toward and the bright futures ahead of them.
During the celebration, our honor graduates for the Class of 2026 were officially announced. These students have earned this distinction through their unwavering dedication, academic excellence, and commitment to success throughout their high school journey. Their hard work and perseverance have set them apart as leaders among their peers. We proudly celebrate their achievements and look forward to all they will accomplish in the future.
We are grateful to the several organizations that presented scholarships and gifts to our seniors. Jaiden McKnight was awarded by both the Walterboro Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Xi Omega Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Zy'Nariah Rhodes received a scholarship from the Preston and Vernise Fields Memorial Scholarship. Last but not least, our representatives for our school BETA Club and National Honor Society distributed gifts to their senior members.
We were honored to welcome Dr. Shanna Jefferson, a proud graduate of Allendale-Fairfax High School, as our guest speaker. She shared her personal journey, reflecting on the challenges she overcame to achieve success, and reminded our graduates that greater success also brings greater responsibility. We were blessed to have Pastor Shavontay Elmore offer a special prayer for our graduates. Superintendent Dr. Vallerie Cave also shared words of encouragement, expressing how proud they are of our scholars for reaching this important milestone.
On Sunday, we held our Baccalaureate Service in honor of the Class of 2026. During the program, the AFMHS Chorus performed several musical selections that made the ceremony especially meaningful. Following the service, students, families, and guests gathered in the commons area to enjoy cake and refreshments as they celebrated this special milestone. The evening was a memorable time of reflection, celebration, and encouragement as our seniors prepare for the next chapter of their journey.

Our students earned these awards by completing essays and or meeting the academic requirements. Assistant Principal Dr. Brandyburg and Superintendent Dr. Vallerie Cave closed the ceremony with some inspiring words. They were both extremely proud of the accomplishments of our seniors and reminded them that we will always support their aspirations.
During our Signing Day ceremony, several students were recognized for successfully completing a career pathway program. Our district proudly offers pathways in cosmetology, sports medicine, general management, health science, automotive technology, and commercial driving license (CDL). These students have dedicated more than 140 hours to developing their skills and mastering their craft in preparation for the workforce. Their hard work, commitment, and determination have equipped them with valuable hands-on experience that will support their future career success.
Today we held our annual Senior Signing Day for our graduates to announce their college and career decisions. Our scholars were surrounded by their friends and family as they declared their decisions and revealed their college acceptances. We are proud of each student as they take the next step toward their goals and dreams. No matter what they decide to pursue, they will always have the support of our district and community.
