Mr. Shamari Moody is a proud native of Govan and Denmark South Carolina. He was born in Govan and lived there until he was 8 years old. It was around this same time when M moved a short distance to Denmark, South Carolina. I also attended the local schools there until I was 14 years old. My love for education began to form in the classrooms of strict yet nurturing teachers that were vested in their students of the 1980’s and 1990’s.

I completed my high school years at Orangeburg Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Upon completion of high school, I continued my education, eventually graduating from The University of South Carolina with a degree in Theatre and Speech with an emphasis in performance acting and political rhetoric.

Shortly after college, I taught middle school mathematics at Richland County School Districts One and Two, Aiken County Public Schools, and my most recent service as assistant principal at Sumter High School. In my 16 years of educational experience, I have achieved numerous awards including but not limited to the following:  First-year Teacher of the Year, Teacher of the Year, District Coach of the Year, and celebrated several district championships in football, basketball, track and field, and volleyball.

I had pivotal roles in helping many students to be selected to the Governor’s School for the Arts, math and science.  I helped write district curriculum pacing guides and have presented at SCAMLE and SCABSE on a book that I am currently in the process of writing entitled Rewards that Work:  A step by step guide to undeniable extrinsic motivation that will incontrovertibly close the achievement gap.

My influence for success came from my principal at Denmark-Olar Middle School when I was in 7th grade. He took time out of a school assembly to give me praise and a vision for my life. Those words directed my life to where I am today. It also taught me the importance of encouragement and giving people permission to achieve greatness.
