This Senior scholar of Allendale-Fairfax High School was one of 350 applicants for the prestigious program that less than 40 students selected to attend. Seniors from across the nation lived on the Princeton University campus for 10 days in early August to learn the principals of journalism and attend workshops lead by reports and editors of notable media outlets.
Joyner feeling under qualified and inadequate as a result of “impostors syndrome,” later realized she was not the only student experiences these feelings. She stated she began to feel comfortable once she remembered her gift of writing. Joyner said her favorite experiences were the investigative piece she was tasked to write and learning how to use social media in journalism.
As the first student ever from the state of South Carolina chosen to attend the summer program, Allendale County Schools is proud to have students like Savannah Joyner. Way to go Savannah!
